IPL Records: Sunrisers Hyderabad Sets Highest Team Total in History!
On March 27, at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Mumbai Indians 277-3 to record the greatest team total in the history of the Indian Premier League.
Playing in his debut IPL 2024 match, Travis Head struck a brilliant 62 off 24 balls, while Abhishek Sharma hammered 63 off 23 to set the tone. Abhishek overtook Head to record Sunrisers Hyderabad’s fastest half-century. Abhishek hit the milestone in just 16 balls, compared to 19 balls for Head.
Aiden Markram (42) and Heinrich Klassen (80) supplied the final push to push the hosts over the 250-mark.
The previous record total, set by RCB in 2013, was 263 for five.
With the exception of Jasprit Bumrah (0/36), all of the MI bowlers ended up surrendering more than 10 runs per over, so it was a nightmare for them.
2013 saw Royal Challengers Bengaluru score 263/5.
The greatest team total in IPL history is currently held by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In a 2013 matchup with the Pune Warriors India (PWI), they scored 263/5. In that same game, Gayle recorded the greatest individual score in league history—a perfect 175 at Pune’s MCA Stadium. That match was won by RCB by an overwhelming 130 runs.
Super Giants of Lucknow 257/5 in 2023
After scoring a team total of 257/5 against the Punjab Kings in the 2023 IPL, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hold the second position. The Kings made it to 200 during their home game at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium in Mohali, but they ultimately lost by 56 runs.
Bengaluru’s Royal Challengers 248/3 in 2016
Thanks to AB de Villiers’ 52-ball, undefeated 129, RCB is once again included in the list. Virat Kohli’s century of 103, which saw the dup lead the red and gold brigade to 248/3 in 20 overs, was another factor in his favor. The team led by Kohli defeated the opposition by a commanding margin of 144 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

2018 saw Kolkata Knight Riders score 245/6.
With their 245/6 at the Holkar Stadium in Indore, the Kolkata Knight Riders rank seventh among the teams with the biggest totals in IPL history. Sunil Narine’s 75 off just 36 balls and Dinesh Karthik’s 50 off 23 balls helped KKR reach such a big total.
Punjab responded by attempting to track down the target even at that point. Despite reaching 214/8, they were defeated by 31 runs in the match.
